When you start planning your wedding, naturally you will focus on your one ‘special day.’ In reality though, your wedding will actually be a number of special days. This is especially true for your out-of-town guests who will likely stay for multiple nights. These guests will need to start planning their trip to attend your wedding several months in advance, long before your invitations go out. Let's talk about what a Save-the-Date card is and why you might need one.

Save-the-Date Basics

Save-the-Date cards inform guests that they are going to be invited to your wedding by telling them they're invited and sharing the celebration date. In essence, that's it. No more, no less.

Couples typically send out save-the-dates a few months after they've gotten engaged and have decided on a wedding venue and date. The idea of a Save-the-Date card is to give your guests as long as possible to prepare for your nuptials while also telling them they should leave that day free for you if they want to be part of your wedding.

Save-the-Date Advice

• Let guests know ahead of time if they are invited to attend the rehearsal dinner, after-party, or a morning breakfast/brunch. They’ll need to factor these into their travel plans as well!
• If you have a lot of out-of-town guests, book a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. If you have a hotel night in your Wedgewood Weddings package, you can book guest rooms at the same hotel.
• If you're super organized you can add the URL for your wedding website on your Save-the-Date cards. This means your guests will be able to learn about your wedding as you public fresh details.
